Lisa, Speech & Language Therapist (Course Attendee)
"All CPD is supposed to change our practice for the better, and the course Wendy provided on Sensory Integration has had a massive impact on the way I work.
She guided us beautifully through the principals of how children learn through movement and the senses, relating Sensory Integration to the work of Speech and Language Therapists. Wendy’s skill, knowledge, approachable style and entertaining manner ensured the day was truly interactive. After lunch, she livened up 'the graveyard shift’ with fidget toys, chews, sweets and wobble cushions! We could all really see the benefit of allowing children to move when they need to fidget, maximising their learning potential. Wendy gave us many suggestions to apply specific types of movement to our therapy sessions. I immediately bought a pop-up tunnel, tried some of these approaches and experienced great success - ‘resetting’ a fidgety child with crawling/ squashing/ rowing activities. After 10 minutes, the child spontaneously returned to the table for more concentrating. Wendy’s advice also enabled me to connect with a severely autistic child who finds it hard to relate to people. My enhanced confidence in this area and understanding of his sensory issues helped me to read his needs, form a bond through non- threatening movement activities, and know to recommend that his mother sought help from a SI specialist like Wendy".
