The information below outlines the processes of engagement to ensure you gain access to the best quality of provision.

Engagement Process //

Telephone consultation

This is an initial screening to identify your key concerns and if the intervention and services we offer is the right next step for you and your child.

Questionnaire

You will be asked to complete a number of questionnaire’s prior to your first visit which provides useful information on your child’s development, presenting difficulties and specific additional screening material depending on your child’s profile.  This information is used to plan and individualise an initial consultation.

Initial Consultation

This appointment lasts approximately 1.15 hours and involves discussions about the information sent via the questionnaire, as well as some preliminary assessments (i.e. balance and coordination, listening tests, educational tests etc.) to decide on the framework of an intervention plan, answer any questions and concerns you may have and outline a program of engagement the format of which may vary from client to client.

Assessment

The nature and purpose of an assessment may vary but if a full assessment is advised it is individualised and involves a comprehensive 2-3-hour assessment in areas such as:

  • Balance and postural control

  • Coordination (both gross and fine muscle control)

  • Listening skills

  • Eye movement control and other visual abilities

  • Memory and sequencing skills

  • Handwriting

  • Neurological Maturity

  • Bilateral Integration

  • Functional Assessments

A full written report is provided with an opportunity to ask follow up questions.

Home-Based Programme

Home based programmes are designed, individualised and demonstrated when commencing an intervention program. The purpose and schedule to follow is discussed with you and your child.

Review Consultations

The review consultations are usually every six weeks and last for an hour. These provide an opportunity to assess progress made, answer any concerns and to advance the intervention. Parent support is available by email during your intervention and additional parent consultation can be arranged.

Final Consultations

Final consultations take place after a 3 or 6-month period following an intervention programme. This will ensure that the progress and advances made will remain without the intervention programme in place. Annual reviews can be arranged on request.

Parent Consultation

This can be arranged at any stage to review aspects of your child’s development, have an opportunity to discuss issues or concerns or get advice on transition periods, explore the bigger picture and help support your decision making in relation to child’s welfare.
